Situated within the same grounds as the Coral Beach and Palm Beach Hotels, and forming part of the Shanzu Holiday Resort, you can enjoy a relaxing setting with winding paths leading through beautiful tropical gardens fragrant with frangipani, poinsettia and other exotic flora. Stroll past tended lawns and shady coconut palms, down the steps to the beach where glittering white sands slope gently into the Indian Ocean.
Your Accommodation
This hotel comprises of several 2 and 3 storey buildings and has 330 rooms which are situated around the inviting swimming pools and gardens.
The air-conditioned bedrooms are simply furnished, bright and spacious with twin beds, a private shower and wc, and a balcony or patio with a table and chairs. There is a 13-amp power point and a safe, for which a small charge is made. All overlook the gardens or swimming pool areas. Please note that there are no lifts.
Suites benefit from a bathroom with a private shower and wc, a separate lounge with a fridge and a large balcony complete with sun loungers.
Wining and Dining
The two cool and airy restaurants are built in traditional Makuti style with a thatched roof creating a distinct character and ambience. A buffet style continental breakfast is offered.
Varied hot and cold dishes are served at breakfast and lunch, buffet style. Dinner will be served from either a buffet or table d’hote menu. For that special treat Le Gourmet à la carte restaurant offers fine cuisine at realistic prices. Please note that access to this restaurant and one other is reached via a number of steps. Drinks and snacks can be purchased at the cafeteria throughout the day and until early evening.
Facilities and Entertainment
There are two swimming pools with large sun bathing terraces, one has a sunken pool bar, and being situated on Shanzu Beach with its 1.5km long stretch of white sand, swimming opportunities are unlimited.
Our friendly and outgoing staff will organise impromptu games such as water polo, aqua aerobics, football and volleyball matches which all add to the fun. Tennis and table tennis are also available, for a small charge.
For the less energetic you can simply relax around the pool on a sun bed, for which a small charge is made (approximately £1 per person per day). Please note that pool towels are not provided.
There are three bars and on most evenings there will be entertainment within the Shanzu Holiday Resort (which also includes open air discos and parties) or at least at one of the other ASC hotels on Shanzu Beach.
Guests are free to use all facilities at the hotels in the Shanzu Holiday Resort.
You can browse around the Shanzu Holiday Market which has a selection of shops and a Bazaar offering a wide selection of local crafts. For your peace of mind, you will also find a doctors surgery. A cafeteria also offers cold drinks and ice creams at reasonable prices. The Show Palace provides occasional evening entertainment. For those who like a flutter, a visit to the Twin Star Casino would not go amiss, while the adjacent Lion King Club features regular music and dancing.

A programme of exciting optional daytime and evening excursions is available during your stay at the Paradise Beach & Shanzu Beach Hotels. Spend the day at sea staying watchful for dolphins and turtles. A half day tour visits the old port of Mombasa where trade ships once sailed between Arabia, Persia and India. Enjoy an evening discovering the stunning sunsets of Mtwapa Creek and the tribal dances of the Masai warriors.

The hotel also has two à la carte restaurants; the Watamu Grill which specialises in local seafood dishes and grills or savour the ambience of Italy in the Piccolino restaurant.
During the day, the pool bar can keep you refreshed as you relax in the sun, while the restful, air-conditioned Safari Bar is an excellent venue for that pre-dinner drink with new found friends.

The Vasco da Gama Hotel offers a variety of accommodation, from single rooms
with no single supplement, to units that cater for families or friends travelling
together. Whilst the hotel has no direct beach access, a short walk through the lush,
tropical grounds and down a steep flight of steps takes you to the palm-fringed,
white-sand Shanzu Beach. Before reaching the beach, the ‘Pavillion d'Amour', which is built on a promontory overlooking the sea, will tempt you to linger for a while and
enjoy the fabulous views of the Indian Ocean.

Refreshing drinks are available throughout the
day and evening from the hotel’s two bars, one of which has wonderful views of the Indian Ocean. For that special occasion, you can dine at the Seaview Terrace à la carte restaurant.

They are spacious and simply furnished with twin beds, an internal telephone, a 13-amp power point and a safe, for which a charge is made. Please note that there are no lifts.
Superior rooms are larger than the standard rooms and benefit from a separate seating area with table and chairs. They have an extended balcony complete with sun loungers and generally occupy a corner position of the buildings.
Most suites are situated on the top floor of the buildings. They benefit from a room with a double bed, a separate lounge, fridge, a bathroom with bath, shower and wc, a dressing room with a hairdryer and a large balcony complete with sun loungers. Wining and Dining
Make new friends at a shared table in the spacious restaurant, which overlooks the gardens and main swimming pool. Enjoy hot and cold buffets at breakfast and lunch which include some local dishes, refreshing salads and an array of fruits, gateaux and sweets. A buffet or table d’hote menu is offered at dinner. For that special occasion the Blue Lagoon à la carte restaurant, with its intimate and romantic atmosphere, serves some of Kenya’s finest fish cuisine, which often includes lobster dishes.
The pool bar is the main focal point for socialising during the day and, on occasions, evenings too. For a quiet aperitif before dinner, the piano bar is very popular. Drinks and snacks can be purchased at the hotel’s cafeteria throughout the day and until early evening.

The hotel boasts a huge lagoon shaped swimming pool, one of the largest of any hotel in Kenya, and features an attractive waterfall and island. Impromptu games, activities and aqua aerobics are arranged in the pool and around the broad sun terraces. A smaller pool is situated on the upper terrace. Sun beds, which are free to guests, are scattered around the gardens, beside the pools and on the beach, for days of relaxation. Pool towels are also provided, free of charge. For a small supplement, you can reserve your own sunbeds (two) and parasol on the beach.
Other facilities include four floodlit tennis courts (free hire, equipment payable locally), massage facilities, internet and WIFI access (all payable locally), a casino plus two shops where you will find a selection of gifts and souvenirs.
There is occasional entertainment at night. Guests can also enjoy the evening entertainment programmes at our other hotels on Shanzu Beach and at ‘Pirates Bay’, African Safari Club’s private Marina.
The Jambo Bar is situated in the grounds of the Flamingo Beach Hotel and is open most nights of the week from 5pm to midnight. Evening entertainment includes live bands, DJs, and films. There is also a weekly ‘Street Market’ with stalls that sell a range of goods, ideal for buying those last minute souvenirs.
